Community News from the
MISSION & OUTREACH COMMITTEE

There are many events coming up that will give us all the opportunity to reach out to and become an active part of supporting our community.  We are sharing with you information about a few of these events to enable you to participate in these fine local programs.

NOVEMBER 15        SHOPPING SPREE

(6 AM to 10AM Only at the BELK store located in the Galleria Mall)

The Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) is having a unique charity private shopping event on Saturday, November 15 with the cooperation of the BELK Department Store. For the purchase of a $5.00 ticket from IHN you will receive a shopping pass that will be good for 20%-50% off throughout the store including special savings on rarely discounted merchandise.  An additional $5.00 off will be applied to your first purchase.  100% of the funds from the advanced ticket sales will be given to IHN.

There will also be tickets available at the store with the proceeds being shared with other participating agencies.

NATIONAL HUNGER & HOMELESS AWARENESS WEEK ACITIVITIES

November 9, 2008       5:30 – 6:30 pm
Candlelight Vigil
City Hall Amphitheate

This event seeks to keep the light of hope burning for homeless citizens as part of the Annual Candlelight Vigil being organized by Catawba Area Coalition for the Homeless. The vigil coincides with National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week in November of each year.  Catawba Area Coalition for the Homeless invites the public to join them for the Candlelight Vigil. A table will be available for those wishing to donate can goods or blankets.

Community Thanksgiving Feast
Redeeming Life Christian Center Campus

The purpose of this event is to share a thanksgiving dinner to those homebound, homeless, lonely or in need of a thanksgiving dinner.  Dinners will be delivered to those who are disabled or elderly.  Transportation will be provided at different locations in the city.
